Another car from around 19 22 , a Chalmers (I can read the hubcap :) )

This was known as a “California Top”.

Ding ding. Specifically a Chalmers Six. Photo is circa 1921. I was wondering if the hubcaps were going to give it away. I need to post smaller pictures!

You’ll note that it has very similar lights at the bottom of the A-pillars to the Stephens, and both the Stephens and this Chalmers have pull-handles of a similar kind to Cadillac on the doors.

But what is going on with the right side B pillar? It’s not there. Does the side come off?

Look at the handles. The front door top slides to the inside of the rear door top, which then both slide all the way back to the roof. There’s a slide support piece in the “middle” of the B-pillar on this side for stability, which would presumably go through a track on the back door lower half’s top when rolled back all the way. “Normal” use is to have the front door tops slid open to get in and out, and with four passengers, both door tops are retracted.

Yeah, I see it now. The pillars aren’t part of the doors. They are proper sliding windows. Neat. Getting all the air inside that you can, presumably. Thanks.

Thanks! I’ve got a bunch lined for the coming days. I’ve never known much about these obscure 1920s marques. I’m learning a lot, mostly that there were many, many car manufacturers back in the day that are now largely forgotten.
